Girl Who is Changing the World: Patti Vile

I am inspired by Patti Vile – and I’m proud to present her as your latest Girl Who Is Changing The World!

Patti was horrified by the damage in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina in August 2005. Between the storm itself, the broken levees, and the terrible flooding, she was shocked that part of her own country was so devastated. Even though she was safe and dry almost a thousand miles away on the North Shore of Chicago, she knew she wanted to help.

Social Media and Activism

It seems hard to ignore the overwhelming presence of social media.

This fun, new, and exciting virtual realm in which we can explore while staying in the comforts of our own homes. More importantly however social media brings people together. One in every nine people uses Facebook. That’s 750 million users worldwide, with more that 2.5 million websites integrating with Facebook. YouTube has 490 million users to its name, with 92 billion pages views a month. Twitter also handles roughly 190 million tweets a day. Take just a second to digest those numbers.

Girl Who is Changing the World: Erika Sullivan

Erika Sullivan is one of my greatest friends and heroes.

I met Erika when we were paired up as roommates on my first trip to India. We immediately clicked and were mostly inseparable for the length of the trip. We bonded over our shared love for traveling and helping animals. Though she is quite a bit better at helping animals than me since she is a veterinarian. (So, clearly a lot better at helping animals.) I must have asked her a million questions and marveled at how she reacted when we saw animals in need. Since our trip to India, we have remained good friends and continue to plan future adventures.

L I P in the Classroom Report #1: Ivy Collins

We got our first report for our Love Infinitely in the classroom  project from high school freshman, Ivy Collins.  So excited to share her story with you:

So I recently read Brenda’s fabulous post about moving Love Infinitely into schools and I LOVE the idea. My absolute best friend, Katey supports all of my views about animal rights and the immediate need to do something for our furry & feathered friends. So together, we’ve been working to start a club specifically just for that.
